What is it?
Acupuncture is a safe and highly effective means of facial rejuvenation. It involves direct application of ultra-fine needles to the face to treat lines, drooping eyelids or jowls and puffiness. Oxygen supply and blood circulation is improved, the lymphatic system is stimulated to drain away toxins and collagen production is increased. In Traditional Chinese Medicine we look not just at the face but at the overall health of the body and the mind/emotions. The benefits of cosmetic acupuncture are that it is not simply a natural facelift but that the whole body is revitalised by this holistic approach resulting in a healthy glow.
What happens during treatment?
The practitioner will take an initial in depth history from the client. Tongue and pulse diagnosis will also be part of the overall assessment. Fine, sterile disposable needles are gently inserted into various points around the body and face. These are generally left in place for approx. 30 minutes. Clients report various sensations after initial insertion including dull aches or tingling sensations which means the treatment is taking effect. Most people also experience a feeling of deep relaxation and well-being. After removal of the needles, facial oils are massaged into the skin to improve lymph drainage and blood circulation and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
How many sessions are needed?
This depends on a number of factors including age, sun exposure and overall health of the client. Most people require 8-10 weekly treatments. Skin improvements can be seen up to 12 weeks after treatment finishes as collagen continues to be produced. Maintenance sessions can be carried out as needed by the client.
