Acupuncture is a safe, drug free treatment which can be used throughout pregnancy. Women seek acupuncture for a range of pregnancy related issues including indigestion, nausea/vomiting, haemorrhoids, varicose veins, vulval varicosities, headaches and migraines, sciatica, carpel tunnel syndrome, pelvic pain, constipation, anxiety/depression, fatigue, anaemia, insomnia, itching, hypertension, oedema, urinary tract infections and threatened miscarriage.
Acupuncture has been proven to successfully turn babies in breech position. Treatment is ideally undertaken in weeks 34-36 but can be started later. Following acupuncture treatment the woman is given a moxa stick to burn over certain acupuncture points on the body to stimulate the baby to turn.
PRE LABOUR PREPARATION
Pre labour acupuncture consists of 4 weekly sessions, (usually from weeks 37-40) to prepare the mother physically, mentally and emotionally for labour. The points are used to promote spontaneous and efficient labour, ripen the cervix, encourage optimal foetal positioning and reduce any anxiety. Acupressure points for pain relief can also be taught to the birthing partner to help ease labour pains. Acupuncture can also be used as a drug free form of induction in overdue pregnancies.
Acupuncture offers a non- invasive approach to treating infertility and research has shown that it increases a couples’ ability to conceive naturally. It is also proven to be an effective complement to medical interventions such as IVF. As well as acupuncture and dietary advice we are stockists of the Natural Health Practice Vitamins that were formulated by Dr. Marilyn Glenville PhD, the UK's leading authority on increasing fertility naturally.
